Disney Executive Joins Emerging e-Commerce
Powerhouse
MONTEREY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2006--SHOP.COM (www.SHOP.COM),
the destination online marketplace where consumers enjoy one-stop shopping
from thousands of trusted brands using a single account, today announced
the appointment of Ken Goldstein as chief executive officer. Lee Lorenzen,
SHOP.COM's founder and former CEO, will remain as chairman of the board.
Co-founder, Bruce Sellers, will remain as president. The search
was performed by executive search firm, Taylor Winfield.
Most recently, Goldstein served as Executive Vice President & Managing
Director of Disney Online, where he was responsible for all creative,
technical, marketing, and financial initiatives surrounding the presence
of the Disney brand on the Internet, including overseeing development
of all the Disney-branded divisional Web sites of The Walt Disney Company
(NYSE:DIS).
"The appointment comes as the result of an extensive, months-long
search," says Lee Lorenzen, SHOP.COM chairman. "We've long been a technology
innovator, and now it's time to transition into a world-class marketing
company. Ken is both a creative marketer and a proven leader with the
demonstrated ability to create the type of marketing culture required
to build a brand into a household name. We're convinced that he is
the perfect person for this role and this opportunity. This is a very
exciting time to be at SHOP.COM."
"SHOP.COM has seen impressive growth over the past three years," notes
Goldstein, "growing from relative obscurity in 2003 to a Nielsen top-20
multi-category e-commerce marketplace currently, thanks to the nearly
one million unique users who visit each day. It's a substantial marketplace
with incredible technology," he continued. "But, from a marketing perspective,
it's really more like start-up and it's extremely exciting for me to
be involved in the evolution and development of this brand."
"Ken's creative expertise in content and brand building and Lee's
ability to drive technology innovation to serve emerging markets is
a great combination for SHOP.COM," said Fred Harman, partner at Oak
Investment Partners and SHOP.COM board member. "SHOP.COM is a unique
model, built on a strategy of serving consumers for the benefit of
merchants, and it's now poised for rapid growth."
Prior to his role at Disney, Goldstein served as vice president of
education and entertainment products at Broderbund Software, which
produced the highly acclaimed Carmen Sandiego series; he was also the
founding general manager of the company's Red Orb Entertainment Division.
Goldstein has a BA degree from Yale University and is active in children's
welfare issues throughout California.
